After this four days in Cambodia, it came to my senses that water is as precious as gold. Looking at the Cambodians without sufficient amount of water, it tells me that it is a blessing for me to be in Singapore.
We had more than enough food and water in Singapore and yet we are wasting them everyday. Is that wise? People are suffering in Cambodia due to lack of water and food and we still waste them in our own country. This is the reason i went to the 4D3N stay at Cambodia to help those people in need. Although i knew that Cambodia is a country which has an environment totally different from Singapore, i was mentally prepared to face the challenges in Cambodia. I noticed that the villagers used oxes to carry out most of their daily activities, which is inconvenient as oxes move very slowly.
The second day, after building the well, i felt that we had saved many people from suffering as the well enables the villagers to obtain clean water. I realised that some of the villagers did not have any shoes to put on whereas we are wearing brand new shoes. I felt sorry for them as they may step onto sharp objects and hurt themselves.
The second last day, we went to a primary school. Looking at their study environment made me feel that we already had such a wonderful school to study in and we should not complain about it. When we were donating the clothes and food to the children, they seemed so eager to snatch it. One of them even wanted to queue up again to get the donations again. Looking at how poor they are made me want to donate more items to them. We are very fortunate to be in Singapore as we had more than enough for our daily needs, and we must be grateful and cherish them.
